Bali Bombing Memorial

“To commemorate the tragedy of terrorist attack on 2002, Bali Bombing Memorial was built for those who lost their lives on that unfortunate day”.

Stood gallantly on the right street of Legian, right above what used to be a crowded club called Paddy’s, Bali Bombing Memorial Site is made of intricately carved stone, set with a large marble plaque, which bears the name and nationalities of each of those killed, all 202 names from different nationalities. It is a very well maintained monument and becoming one of the highlight if Legian until now, as tourist occasionally stop by, taking their time to pray in front of the monument, read the names, and take pictures.

Bali Bombing Memorial 2The memorial was officially dedicated on 12 October 2004, the second year after the attack. Paddy’s Club bombing killed 202 people and injured 209 others, and considered as the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of Indonesia. Bali has been trying to recover ever since, and succeeded, as the island sees continually flows of tourists coming more and more each year. The monument now serves as a reminder of what once happened, as Bali continue to moves on and is still considered as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
